The original kinkmap, published in 1999 in the first edition of Deviant Desires, only included the kinks covered in the book. With the 2006 KINK: Geography of the Erotic Imagination exhibition at Museum of Sex in New York, Katharine Gates expanded the map to include as many kinks as possible, with new connections, themes and key codes.
